A super chic RLR reader and I sat down the other day and we started talking about famous fashion myths; you know, the ones that have been drilled into your psyche like not wearing a mini-skirt after 35 (tell that to Courtney Cox) or mixing black with brown (apparently the women of Paris missed that memo).  Labour Day has come and gone and most of us have retired our whites for fear of breaking another long-held fashion rule.  We've already heard that you can absolutely wear white through the winter but how many of us actually try it?  If your white skinnies have been banished to the back of your closet, here are a few great ways to rouse them from a long winter's nap.  When paired with greys, blacks and camels, white jeans can look snow-white sensational.  Hits of fur (faux, real, whichever you prefer), leather (ditto), and chunky knits will give your whites a new lease on life.  Imagine how excited they'll be to see snow for the first time?!

Found:  Awesomeness

I don't care if you have kids or not - this, in my opinion, is an absolute must-buy for any babies in your life.  Come on, Casino Royale for newbies?   I can picture it now:  New Year's Eve, my 6-month-old, Alexander, lounging by the fire, bottle in one hand, noisemaker in the other, making every other person in the room feel seriously under-dressed.  I can already guess who's going to be getting the most kisses when the clock strikes 12 (though he'll undoubtedly be fast asleep).  The tuxedo onesie is in H&M stores now for a cool $12.95.  Talk about aww-inspiring!

Alber, You Do Have Style

Photography by Johanna Simmonds

Lanvin's hugely anticipated capsule collection for H&M hits select stores on Nov 20th.  My always-up-for-a-party (and 6 months preggers, bless her soul) sister and I were lucky to get a sneak peak at the gorgessity Wednesday night at the AGO.  It was super fun, the clothes were party perfect and the crowd was very Zoolander.

Alber Elbaz has made a fun, young collection for hipsters everywhere with plenty of ruffles, look-at-me brights and girly bows for the party set.

Les mannequins in le spotlight.

The accessories were our favourite part, of course.  That purse, that necklace and oh, the shoes..how do you pick just one?

Far-from-basic party dresses filled the racks.  Jo and I both adored the yellow and gold ruffled beauties.

Jo sipped water, the sartorialisty french man drank wine and we made the guy in the red hat hold a red necklace.

Every Lanvin for H&M dress will come with one of these amazing garment bags.  So chic!

You can check out the full collection at http://www.hm.com/ca/#/Lanvin/

A huge merci to the girls at H&M for the fun!

I feel like I've been unfair to you.  I've been going on and on about fall's love affair with simple, clean basics and completely ignored the louder, more exciting side of the season.  The yin to fashion's minimalist yang comes in the form of rocker chic .  The runway at Balmain had models vamping it up in sexy minidresses, hot ankle booties, and brocade black and gold jackets.  I love the theatricality of it all and after a weekend full of amazing costumes, I'm totally in the mood for a bit of excess.  And, with party season looming near, now's the perfect time to start thinking about how you're going to set yourself apart from the predictable sea of LBD's. Real Life Runway Tip:  Be a rock 'n rolla by pairing a fierce black dress like this velvet beauty from Aritzia with fun gold accessories and a statement brocade jacket.  If you want to leave a little more to the imagination, opt for skinny black pants.  If you want to leave less to the imagination, leave out the dress altogether.  Kidding.  Sorry, it's the candy talking.

Patricia Field Does Hallowe'en

Patricia Field rocks and her outfits on Sex and the City were so over-the-top that they practically stole the show from SJP.  It makes perfect sense that she's now designing Hallowe'en costumes.  Don't you just love?  If you can't get your hands on these in time for the 31st, here are a few other fun ideas:

  • Old Spice Man: Get your guy to oil himself up, wrap himself in a white towel, and carry a stick of Old Spice deodorant.   Make sure he cocks his eyebrow and uses the word 'ladies' all night.
  • Tiger Woods (post scandal): Wrinkled, unbuttoned Nike golf shirt and khakis, golf club and  requisite lipstick smears
  • Snooki from Jersey Shore:  Long black wig in a Snooki half-up-do, really bad fake spray tan, low cut dress and trashy heels
  • Lady Gaga:  So many options - google her and get inspired
  • Willow Smith: Long black braids, sparkly silver fake lashes, white, paint-splattered jumpsuit (watch the 'Whip My Hair' video on vimeo for ideas)
  • Anna Wintour:  perfect bob, sheath dress, copy of Vogue under one arm and a whip

Happy Hallowe'en, my treats.  And remember, calories don't count on holidays!
