Pink Tartan's Ginormous Couturitarian, um, Fabullection?

Our country has a history of powerful pairings who, together, have inspired the way we dress: Margaret and Pierre Trudeau, Dean & Dan Caten, Bob & Doug McKenzie.  Perhaps no Canadian couple has had more influence, though, than Joe Mimran and his ever-stylish wife.

Kimberley Newport-Mimran co-founded Pink Tartan back in 2002 and her much-loved label of sharply-cut and sophisticated but totally wearable clothing has garnered a devout following.  The line is now carried at hugely influential department stores both here and south of the border and her new flagship store, Seventy Seven, just opened in Yorkville this past year, showcasing Mimran's modern, sophisticated aesthetic.

So, it was with high expectations that the fashion crowd packed the stands at Heritage Court on Tuesday night and her 'couturitarian' collection did not disappoint.  In a case of art imitating life, the fall collection took its inspiration from all things military with shades of army green, khaki and metallic camo prints dominating the palette.  Tough-looking epaulets, wool overcoats and utility pockets clashed beautifully against ultra-feminine parachute silks, tulle skirts and ostrich feathers, giving much-needed softness to a decidedly masculine look.

Seasoned stylist, George Antonopoulos took Mimran's beautifully tailored pieces and showed them off to great effect, pairing a midi-length tulle skirt with a structured epaulet shirt and casting in unexpected grenade-like pops of vibrant plum.  The leather belts, aviator caps and cross-body bags finished off the looks making several editors I spoke with want to enlist, or at least, add a few things to their must-have list.

My own personal must-haves?  The silk olive-green maxi dress, the perfectly cut shirts and every single one of her wool coats.  Can't wait to see Pink Tartan, and hopefully my budget, continue to grow.

Check out the covetable collection for yourself by clicking on the thumbnails below.  Enjoy!
