Jeremy Laing and Arts & Crafts Team Up to Benefit MusiCounts

Feist x Sojourner Truth Parsons Tee

I just found out about an amazing collaboration and had to share - Canadian indie label Arts & Crafts has teamed up with Canadian fashion star Jeremy Laing to create an original line of apparel, featuring design mash-ups between Arts & Crafts musicians and Canadian visual artists. The tees are undeniably rockstar cool but best of all, 100% of the profits will be donated to MusiCountswhose mission is to ensure that all children in Canada have access to a music program through their school.

Artistically directed and produced by Laing, visual artists Derek SullivanJessica Eaton,Sojourner Truth ParsonsNiall McClelland and Jason McLean each chose an Arts & Crafts musician as a muse, and used their music to inspire the t-shirt designs. The result is a unique design that intersects between visual art and sound, representing the work of Arts & Crafts, Broken Social Scene, Feist, Timber Timbre and Dan Mangan.

"It was fun to pair some of my favourite Canadian visual artists, several of whose works I have collected personally, with complementary artists on the Arts & Crafts roster,” said Laing. “Based on similarities of approach and aesthetic, I invited each visual artist to interpret aspects of each musician's work. The results are diverse, surprising and cool!"

The limited edition collection retails for $75 each and will be available starting Monday, May 6th in select Hudson’s Bay stores in Toronto (Bloor St.), Oakville
, OttawaEdmontonCalgary and Vancouver (Granville St.), as well as online at TheBay.com and through Arts & Crafts’ 10 year anniversary site www.arts-crafts.ca/AC10.

Arts & Crafts x Derek Sullivan
A graduate of York and Guelph Universities, Derek Sullivan crosses mediums to question familiar forms and genres, the perfect masterful talent to be paired with Arts & Crafts. Sullivan’s work has been exhibited across Canada and internationally, including solo shows at Mercer Union and the Southern Alberta Art Gallery.

Broken Social Scene x Jessica Eaton
Montreal-based photographer Jessica Eaton employs a variety of experimental, analogue-based photographic techniques to create images addressing light, illusion and spatial relations.

Feist x Sojourner Truth Parsons
Grammy-award winning artist Feist handpicked Sojourner Truth Parsons to collaborate with her on this project. Hailing from Toronto, Parsons is a graduate of Nova Scotia College of Art & Design. Her work references both folk art tradition and witchcraft.

Timber Timbre x Niall McClelland
McClelland’s work has been featured in Adbusters and The Walrus, and he recently collaborated with Laing on a textile print for his spring/summer 2012 collection.

Dan Mangan x Jason McLean
Described as “mental maps”, McLean’s pieces have been displayed internationally, including shows in Venice, Malmo, Santa Monica and Vancouver.
