Orange is the New Black

While everyone's talking about purple right now, there's another, decidedly more juicy hue, that took the world's runways by storm for spring. Designers showed off bold shades of orange in the form of playful surfer-girl separates, chic suits, and even evening gowns, signalling a super happy return to the sunny days ahead.

So what is it about orange that's so appealing (or should I say, a-peel-ing)? Orange combines the energy of red and the optimism of yellow while providing a healthy dose of heat, so after a long, cold winter, it's no wonder we're drawn to it. This spring, opt for saturated orange shorts, blouses and dresses to instantly warm things up. Not quite ready to be so bold? An orange shoe, handbag, or statement necklace will add the perfect pop of colour to your outfits - especially against white, khaki, blues and purples. While you're at it, don't forget to give good face - orange lips and nails will help you look right on trend for the new season.

Check out these lovely orange crushes in stores right now. Sigh...orange you glad spring's almost here?

Emerald City

You may have heard (and you may have not) that Emerald is the It colour of the hour.  Between our penchant for all things planet-friendly and Pantone's declaration of 'Emerald' as the official Colour of the Year for 2013, green is where it's at.  And where last year's Tangerine Tango was a little tricky (to say the least), green is refreshingly easy to pull off, whether you're blonde, brunette or even fiery red.  Not only does it flatter, but green is incredibly versatile, making you look fresh and lively one minute and sultry and sophisticated the next.  Whether you rock it head-to-toe or simply opt for a pretty green polish (stay tuned for loads of Emerald makeup coming to Sephora this spring), there are loads of ways to get your green on.

Being green might not be easy but wearing it?  That, as they say, is a whole other story (or in this case, see below...)

Green with Envy

So long, farewell, old burgundy.  I tried (really I did) but if I'm honest, we've had our fun and now I'm ready for a change.  Luckily, Pantone has declared pretty Emerald as the colour to covet in 2013.  They say it’s not easy being green, but wearing green? That’s a whole other story. The rich hue, said to promote balance and harmony will help you feel enlivened, elegant and positively renewed. Can’t think of a better way to kick off the new year!  Check out my top 10 emerald finds at iVillage.ca this week, guaranteed to make people (pun intended) green with envy. Soooo glad I decided to wear emerald for my headshot. Now if only I could take back that Puerto Rican haircut... (I'm still not over it)
